Signum, Malfa – Isole Eolie

Amazing Colorful Retreat

Signum, Malfa – Isole Eolie

Tucked up high in the hills in the village of Malfa is the enchanting Hotel Signum, a friendly and romantic family-run hotel, located on the quiet side of Salina, the largest and greenest of the 7 islands with views across the Tyrrhenian sea nestled among the fragrant lemon trees and bougainvillea. With the beach of “Spiaggia dello Scario” only 10 minutes’ walk away.

This family-run hotel has positioned itself as one of Salina’s finest hotels in the region and was created from a cluster of antique houses into a small community set around a series of landscaped terraces and luscious gardens filled with beautifully scented Mediterranean plants. It has 30 light and airy rooms combined with a Michelin star restaurant, cozy bar & terrace with views to the sea, infinity pool, and finally a wellness center and spa.

It is perfectly situated to explore the surrounding area and the concierge can arrange walking tours, cookery classes, and wine tasting or just relax sipping an Aperitivo on the terrace bar or the infinity pool where the sunbeds are strategically placed around the lush gardens.

The thermal spa adds another dimension to the experience where guests can indulge themselves in the luxury spa which specializes in geothermic water treatments and offers a range of treatments and products based on the natural properties of Salina. Additionally, there is a traditional Aeolian, open-air steam bath, water therapy in tubs, facials, and massages utilizing local produce including almond milk, bitter orange, and prickly pear.

Food & Drink

Gastronomy is a key feature of the hotel and has the accolade of the island’s sole Michelin-starred restaurant run by Martina Caruso, the daughter of the owners Clara Rametta and Michele Caruso. She has created a gastronomic ‘heaven’ combining local produce with her cookery skills and was awarded the Michelin star in 2019, the youngest Italian chef to receive the award.

Local ingredients, including the fat juicy caper bud that grows wild along the cliffs, combined with homemade pasta and the freshest of fish. The open-air restaurant is rustically simple, lit with oil lamps and candles perfectly placed for a romantic night or special events including weddings which they host throughout the season.

Salina produces some of the finest wines in Sicily and the hotel contains carefully selected vintage wines that come from every part of Italy with special attention given to small producers of the region. The wine cellar is managed by the owner’s son Luca Caruso which truly makes a family-run hotel!

The 30 individually styled rooms are light and airy and rustic in design with many having their own private terraces with views of the Mediterranean. Classic, Superior, and Deluxe rooms generally have a smaller terrace or balcony although the Deluxe Room has a terrace overlooking the infinity pool and scented gardens. The rooms include all the creature comforts including air conditioning, ceiling fan, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, telephone, minibar, safe, and room service.

Marvelous Land
One of seven islands in the Aeolian archipelago off the Sicilian coast, its steep twin mountains - once volcanoes - are swathed in lush vegetation, blossoming trees, and wildflowers. Every corner of Salina stirs the soul of the intrepid traveler. On your journey, you'll pass vineyards and olive groves, lemon trees, caper bushes, and cacti. Between the inactive volcano, peaks lie Rinella, a tiny port where fishermen are found untangling lobsters from their nets, and from that vantage point, you'll see Mount Etna looming over Sicily. Every corner of Salina stirs the soul!

Staying in Malfa

Aeolian islands present a volcanic terrain and a dark surface.
Salina, the archipelago’s second-largest island, is quite different and maintains a rich, green landscape thanks to its natural freshwater springs.
Its breathtaking cliffs dive into the waters below while wildflowers, deep yellow gorse plants, and vineyards cover the ground.

Every trip we take contributes to build our own life story.

A story that is a patchwork of encounters, experiences and memories made while traveling. And just like fabric scraps in a quilt, every trip we take, no matter how big or long, holds its own special place in our life and contributes to shape who we are.
