Douro 41

A sleek design hotel harmoniously blended into the UNESCO-listed Douro valley, with a peaceful setting on the banks of the river. As well as offering striking panoramic views, the hotel has great local food, exclusive spa treatments and two fabulous infinity pools.

Douro41 Hotel & Spa is a contemporary design hotel perched on the left bank of the Douro river, halfway between Oporto and the Unesco-listed Douro wine region.

The structure, which features extensive use of schist and glass, was conceived to echo the natural terraces on the slopes of the Douro Region. Balconies, terraces, expansive windows, and glass walkways bring the natural surroundings into the interiors, where neutral hues, natural materials, and a sophisticated, minimalist décor take centre stage. Two gorgeous infinite pools, one on a terrace and one on the rooftop, offer breathtaking views of the river and the entire valley.

One of the hotel’s attractions is the spa equipped with a sauna, Turkish bath, indoor heated pool, shower sensations, and panoramic windows for relaxing moments with a view. Treatments and products are supplied by the Irish brand Moss Of The Isles and there is also a 24-hour gym equipped with weights, treadmill, elliptical bike, and pilates ball.

Food & Drink

The menu at the panoramic Raiva Restaurant largely comprises regional delicacies, from veal to sweet water fish, and traditional local recipes like Lagareiro (baked octopus with potatoes), Ceboladas (onion sauce), and Vinha d’alhos (meat marinated with garlic and wine). For drinks and informal dining, there’s the À Terra Bar & Canteen, which offers tasty comfort food prepared in the wood-fired or in the fireplace, to wash down with the region’s celebrated wine, creative cocktails, or sangria.

Rooms

Douro41 offers a range of accommodation to choose from – deluxe, superior, suite – all decorated in a palette of soft, natural tones, with large windows facing the Douro River and the surrounding landscape, which create a bright and airy feel. Some also have a balcony.  Amenities include SmarTVs, minibar, coffee machines, tea-making facilities, Marshall speaker columns, and umbrellas, while bathrooms are equipped with robes, slippers, and hairdryers.

For a special treat, the room to book is the Panoramic Suite offering breathtaking views of the valley, a bath tub with views of the Douro, and a private garden.

Staying in Porto

Birthplace of the country’s famous Port wine, it welcomes visitors with an enchanting landscape crossed by the mighty Douro river and dotted with terraced vineyards, fabulous viewpoints, and a collection of charming towns and villages to explore, including Pinhão, Lamego, and Peso da Régua, the region’s capital.
