Historic Estate in the heart of Bretagne

Domain de la Bretesche, Missillac

A top-notch country hotel set in the outbuildings of a 15th-century castle on France’s Atlantic Loire Valley. It comprises one of the country’s most beautiful golf courses, two swimming pools, a spa, and excellent dining facilities – including a gourmet restaurant.

Set in the heart of the Brière Regional Park, in France’s Atlantic Loire Valley, Domaine de la Bretesche is a grand five-star estate home to one of the country’s most beautiful golf courses. It occupies a 15th-century castle listed as a historical monument and surrounded by 200 hectares of parkland filled with centuries-old trees.

The centrepiece of the estate is the magnificent 18-hole golf course designed by Bill Baker, where guests can practice their swing accompanied by superb views of the medieval chateau. There is also a compact 9-hole course ideal for those keen to work on their short game.

Other facilities at Domaine de la Bretesche include outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor swimming pool surrounded by greenery, a fitness centre, complimentary bikes to explore the park, and a spa complete with an indoor pool, sauna, and an extensive menu of signature treatments by French beauty brands Cinq Mondes, Omnisens and Biovive.

Those who would like to do a bit of sightseeing will find interesting places to explore in the area, such as the attractive town of Guérande, the historic village of Kerhinet, the seaside resort of La Baule, and the treasures of Nantes. Before heading home, the hotel’s onsite boutique is the place to go for unique souvenirs created by local artisans and producers.

Food & Drink

At Le Montaigu, the chef takes guests on a journey through the region’s flavours, with gourmet compositions between land and sea that draw on seasonal local produce. Guests dine in an elegant dining room with antique chandeliers and lovely views of the grounds and the lake.

For a more casual dining experience, the “Club” Brasserie overlooking the golf course serves all-time favorites like burgers, Ceasar salads, and cheese platters, and there’s also a well-stocked bar with high-quality cocktails and spirits.

For a nightcap, there’s no better place than the Ecuries Bar, serving a range of excellent whiskeys and creative cocktails in the castle’s former stables, where the original troughs can still be seen

Rooms

The former outbuildings of the castle have been converted to house 31 luxurious rooms and suites. Each flaunts its own personality, with a blend of classic and contemporary styles, and has views of either the park, the golf course, or the pool. All come with a minibar, a flat-screen TV with international channels, slippers, and robes.

The estate also comprises a number of cottages located in the former sheepfold, complete with a fully equipped kitchenette, separate dining and living area, one or two bedrooms, and a private terrace.
