Suite Hotel Pincoffs
Rotterdam, NetherlandsThe building that houses the hotel is a former customs house built in 1879 on the riverfront, now a national monument, which two ex-journalists have lovingly refurbished and converted into a chic urban gateway that blends period details and contemporary styling. Old black-and-white photos are displayed throughout the hotel giving a real sense of the building’s history and its city, as do original features like the massive customs house safe.
The Pincoffs, which is named after the legendary businessman who greatly contributed to developing modern Rotterdam, also has a strong commitment to sustainability, with lots of green initiatives in their day-to-day operations. From using 100% green gas and electricity to serving organic products, its environmental efforts earned it prestigious recognitions like the Green Key Gold license and the Gaia Green Award.
Throughout the day, the Lodewijk bar is a cozy retreat where guests can sink into comfy couches by the fireplace with a glass of Pincoffs Pink Fizz, the hotel’s own wine. It’s in the old clerk room of the customs house and features beautiful period details such as cast iron pillars, antique cabinets, and fine stucco.
Most have tall panoramic windows bathing the space with light and those on the top floor feature beautiful historic wooden beams. There are a few rooms arranged on two floors and a rooftop apartment that is perfect for longer stays. Guests can also choose from a number of elegant Suites, all with original period details. We have a Romantic Suite with a fireplace and a freestanding English tub, a Corner Suite with a whirlpool and one of the best views of the whole hotel, and an Art Suite designed by artists with reclaimed materials and featuring a steam cabin, massage shower and bath.
All rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with iPod docking stations, in-room tablets, minibars, espresso coffee machines, flatscreen TVs with DVD players. Bathrooms have sustainable products by Grown Alchemist and towels and bathrobes of soft Egyptian cotton.
Few old buildings remain in Rotterdam's center, since the city was almost completely destroyed during WWII. One of them is the old customs house on the Maas river, next to the Rotterdam Marina, which now houses the hotel and was declared a national heritage monument.
Kop van Zuid-Entrepothaven, the district where the hotel is located, corresponds to the city’s old port area and boasts a fabulous mix of impressive modern architecture and restored historical buildings that are now home to cool restaurants and museums. Views of the Rotterdam skyline are truly beautiful from here.
The Pincoffs does everything it can to reduce its impact on the environment, including sourcing organic products, creating a lovely urban garden on the quay next to the hotel, and planting trees in their own forest in Panama to compensate for CO2 emissions. The team also finances causes that contribute to a more sustainable living environment.
